Hopi Relief
Hopi Relief, in partnership with Warehouses4Good, plans to develop the first food warehouse and resource center for the Hopi Tribe, improving the local food system and providing an anchor for economic development. The Hopi Resource Center will provide:
- Community space for aggregation, light processing, packing, and storage of local agricultural products, for tribal, regional, and international consumption.
- Improved access to and reduced cost of food, building supplies, healthcare goods, and other commodities consumed on the reservation.
- Support for on‐reservation stores, reducing economic ‘leakage’ caused by driving to and spending money at stores in surrounding communities.
- Ability to accept and process in‐kind donations offered by organizations such as St. Mary’s Food Bank, Amazon and Good360, providing much‐needed food and supplies at no or substantially reduced cost.
Throughout this program, the project team will identify and convene Hopi stakeholders to collaborate on planning, funding, constructing, and operating one or more small warehouse facilities to serve the community. Hopi Relief and Warehouses4Good will lead strategy development by managing:
- Communicate among Tribal Council, village elders, local farmers and businesses, and community non‐profit leaders to identify specific areas of investigation.
- Conduct Market Consultation focusing on products that will meet Tribal needs.
- Produce a Feasibility Report and Design Requirements
- Determine the best site based on community feedback and availability
- Draft a layout for the warehouse design that incorporates and meets the needs of the community feedback provided in the Feasibility Report.
